About the Project

NetMonitor is a very extensive research project whose goal is to gather information on internet audience in the Czech Republic as well as socio-demographic profile of Czech internet visitors.

The project sponsor is SPIR. The project organizer is MEDIARESEARCH, a. s. in cooperation with Gemius S.A.

Since January 2012, the company comScore is becoming a new NetMonitor provider. Due to a proper preparation of the project, the Czech internet users may encounter new comScore´s on-line questionnaires focused on internet usage already since September 2011. NetMonitor research carried out by comScore will become a part of the global research project PermissionResearch (www.permissionresearch.com).

MEDIARESEARCH (www.mediaresearch.cz) is a Czech research company which deals with market research, media, and public opinion. Its most significant project to date is the implementation of “peoplemeters”, which measure television viewing habits in the Czech Republic, for the Association of Television Organizations (ATO).

Project description

The NetMonitor research is realized via combination of methods: measurement on the server side (site-centric) as well as on the user side (user centric).

Internet audience monitoring

takes place on the page of monitored server (site-centric) and collects information about all visitors to a server. Site-centric technology is based on Javascript codes embedded into monitored pages. This enables it to receive an extensive data file or, for example, detect the technical parameters of users’ computers. The technology also enables the resolution of many methodological and technological problems (it minimizes the calculation of operations caused by indexing robots and other automatic scripts, eliminates the effect of caching, etc.). The technology is powered by gemiusTraffic system.

Socio-demographic research of visitors

is realized on a panel (sample of visitors) of Czech internet users. The panel consists of 2 parts: Pop-up panel which collects information by showing pop-up questionnaires on participating websites and NetMonitor panel which uses a local application, NetSoftware, installed on individual NetMonitorPanel members’ computers. The resulting Joint panel comprises ca. 30.000 people and reports unified data.

The system processing eliminates inaccuracies arising from deleting cookies and delivers the actual number of visitors (real users). Research infrastructure is used now for overlying research, such as post-buy analyses, ad-hoc research, and campaign pre-tests and post-tests.  Mutual comparability (and possible interconnection) of results enables standardized monitoring of the Czech internet in this area.
